Is it possible to print out a diagnostic laboratory? Researchers at Stanford University have developed a method for carrying out low-cost diagnostic tests. A "laboratory" located on the palm will be able to detect an early stage of breast cancer and other deadly diseases, such as malaria or tuberculosis. It is composed of two parts. The first one is a silicone microfluidic chamber used to locate cells for testing. The second is a reusable electronic strip with electronic circuit that can be printed using an ordinary inkjet printer. The printing on a polyester surface is to be performed with a conductive ink. After connecting a battery, the "chip" allows for separating cells based on their inherent electrical properties. An electric potential applied across the inkjet-printed strip makes the cells, loaded into the microfluidic chamber, get pulled in different directions. The behavior depends on their "polarizability" in a process called dielectrophoresis.

As the testing process is easy, even untrained personnel should deal with the preparation of the device and its application. The next step should be a visit to the doctor who must interpret the results for further diagnosis and treatment, e.g. in a case of cancer. The non-invasive device can be extremely cheap, even at the level of one cent per chip. The method eliminating the need for using fluorescent or magnetic labels for tracking cells greatly improves precision and cuts the testing time. The device can be used to capture single cells from a mix, isolate rare cells and count cells based on cell types. With such a great potential, it could revolutionize the way of carrying out diagnostic tests. It also applies to basic and applied research, but according to a member of the team, the most important thing is that "Enabling early detection of diseases is one of the greatest opportunities we have for developing effective treatments".
Types of HDMI converters/extenders - part 2. Signal-HD H3614 HDMI to IP converter enables the user to connect remote (up to 100 m) source of HD content to HD-enabled television/monitor, using one CAT5e/6 cable. The set includes transmitter and receiver units. IP signal coming from the transmitter may be applied to an Ethernet switch to split it among multiple H3615 receivers. The bit rate of the compressed signal at the output of the transmitter is about 15 Mbps.
Distinguishing features:
  • Transmission via a single Cat. 5e/6 cable
  • UDP/IP protocol (multicast)
  • Possibility of using point-to-multipoint topology
  • Support for 1080p mode
  • Maximum length of cable: 100 meters

Streaming high quality video to mobile devices. DIPOL offers a multifunctional device that encodes input HDMI signal to IP stream, SIGNAL-433 R86433. The device has HDMI and USB inputs and IP output (RJ-45). The output can stream three independently configured multimedia streams using UDP (unicast/multicast), RTMP and HLS protocols, with adaptation of the bit rate to the network capabilities, including wireless transmission of multimedia (also HD) to mobile devices. The Signal-433 encoder can be used in networks based on "SOHO" access points without the risk of overloading their CPUs. The IP streaming can be properly decoded by PC computers, laptops, tablets, smartphones running e.g. free VLC player developed by VideoLAN and released under GPL license. The media player supports a wide range of file types without a need for installing additional codecs.
Signal-433 R86433 HDMI to IP encoder is widely used in many places for the convenience of people waiting at airports, in admission units etc., traveling on ships, trains, or planes), students (transmissions of lectures, medical videos etc.), customers (promotional, instructional videos), employees (corporate TV), so anywhere where some media content should be or may be wirelessly transferred to mobile devices of the potential users.

Joining pigtails and fibers of different types/standards. The experience of installers shows that different types of fibers cannot be spliced in an arbitrary manner. Generally, the whole transmission link should be composed of fibers of the same specification, e.g. G.652.D, G.657.A1 etc. However, it often happens that the installer does not know in advance what type of fibers is provided to the distribution frame/box.
It is possible to splice cables with G.657.A1 fibers with pigtails with A2 fibers. The reverse connections (A2 fibers in the cable, A1 pigtails) have much worse performance. The still most popular G.652.D fibers should not be spliced with G657.A2 pigtails, but can be joined with G657.A1 pigtails.
Indoor Cable: ULTIMODE ILB-2SM-A (2xG.657A1, limited bending radius)
Single-mode Pigtail PG-52S2 (SC/APC, G.657.A2, 1m)
The popular FTTH cable ULTIMODE ILB-2SM-A L7102 with G657.A1 fibers
and ULTIMODE PG-52S2 L35522 pigtails can be spliced without any problems
It is worth mentioning that the information is not a presentation of any standards or guidelines, but only some conclusions from the experience of installers splicing optical fibers. It is possible that some models of welding machines will allow for satisfactory results with theoretically incorrect combinations. On the other side, the universal and always legitimate approach is keeping one standard of fibers in the whole installation.
How to merge or clip surveillance video? Along with VSPlayer, Hikvision supplies application for merging recordings - FileMerge, and for clipping them - FileClip. The first application is used when the required video coverage is contained in two recordings, the second when the needed portion of a recording is shorter than the entire video file. The applications have been designed for editing recordings performed by Hikvision devices, encoded in H.264 format, with mp4 extension. Operations carried out by the applications do not delete metadata such as watermark (it is allowed to combine recordings only from the same channel ) or information about motion. After merging operation, the watermark displays unchanged information on the actual time of the recording.

Video monitoring of a home with the use of Sunell IP cameras. Currently we offer 2 MP Sunell IP cameras characterized by very good image quality and low price. They are perfect devices for simple and low cost HD video surveillance systems in single-family homes. Both the indoor cameras SN-IPR/04FVD/B(II) K1633 and outdoor models SN-IPR54/04ZMDN/M(II) K1676 have been equipped with 2.8-12 mm varifocal lens with adjustable viewing angle. The built-in IR illuminators allow for operation without visible light.
As seen in the diagram below, the cameras have been connected via UTP cables to the N29982 PoE switch, which provides them with power supply and communicates with the 8-channel IP NVR Hikvision DS-7608NI-E2/A K22081. Thanks to a router, e.g. TL-WR1043ND N3253, the access to the NVR is possible via the LAN or Wi-Fi.

Universal Antenna Mount USBC-38/400-Z (wall/balustrade)
Universal Antenna Mount USBC-38/400-Z (wall/balustrade) E8874 made of steel has been designed for installing satellite or terrestrial antennas. It can be easily mounted to a wall or balustrade. In the latter case it is necessary to buy E9292 U-bolts. The mount has indents that allow for placing the antenna cable under the base and pulling it through the tube.

Antenna Mast UMA-50R100 (103 cm, adjustable base)
Antenna Mast UMA-50R100 (103 cm, adjustable base) E8742 is dedicated for mounting television, radio or Wi-Fi antennas on flat or sloping rooftops, without using any ballast.

Ballast Mast Base MB-3/PLUS
Ballast Mast Base MB-3/PLUS E8744 can hold antenna masts with diameter up to 50 mm and height up to 3 m. It can be used on flat, solid roofs where there is no possibility of attaching a typical mast to some elements on the roof (there are no suitable chimneys, walls etc.) and the surface of the roof cannot be penetrated by any stuff. With sufficient ballast, the MB-3/PLUS E8744 base can be used not only for DVB-T, DAB, FM, WiFi/WLAN antennas, but also for satellite dishes.
