DIPOL Weekly Review – TV and SAT TV, CCTV, WLAN
No. 36/2021 (November 8, 2021)
DVB DEMOS 2021. Last month saw the second edition of the online DVB DEMOS. During the event, the DVB members demonstrated online innovative products and services based on the latest generation of Internet-oriented DVB solutions, from DVB-I and DVB-DASH to multicast ABR or the use of native IP and 5G network technologies. The conference provided ample evidence that new IP-based DVB solutions are well positioned to establish a new era in TV delivery service. Fifteen DVB member companies presented their latest products and services running on new or future DVB specifications. The DVB-I standard was the basis for more than half of the presentations. In some cases, solutions based on the DVB Native IP standard, whose specification is expected to see the light of day at the end of this year, were presented for the first time.
DVB DEMOS 2021 – presentation recording
The presentations were shown among others by: TPV Technology, Kineton, Dolby and Huawei, who focused on specific examples of DVB-I standard implementation and information on how it can be used to support the full range of device types and viewing contexts. For the first time, Qualcomm demonstrated DVB-I as part of LTE-based 5G terrestrial transmission. In subsequent presentations, multiple vendors showed how DVB Native IP will enable the delivery of live OTT video content over satellite.
Summing up the event, DVB head Emily Dubs explained and highlighted the special role of DVB-I as a common layer for multiple services delivered to users via any backhaul technology.
Control of relays in the IP Villa 2 gen. door/gate station with external buttons. Video intercom door/gate stations IP Villa 2nd generation (except for DS-KV6113-WPE1(B) DS-KV6103-PE1(B)), have 2 independently triggered built-in relays, which enable the control of e.g. a wicket or an entrance gate. By default, the second relay in the door/gate station is off and should be activated with the iVMS-4200 app or via a web browser. Those outputs can be triggered using the Hik-Connect mobile app, the iVMS-4200 PC application, indoor stations or after shorting to ground (GND) of AIN4 (DOOR2 relay activation) and AIN3 (DOOR1 relay activation) inputs. Those inputs are often used for the installation of local opening buttons, mounted at a safe distance so that they cannot be reached from outside the fence. The solution can open the wicket without a key, if no movable handle or knob is installed on the inner side. The gate can open quickly without the need for a remote control.

Headend in a nursing home. A decision was made to modernize the antenna system in one of the buildings of a nursing home in Krakow. The system was expected to provide access to all terrestrial DVB-T/T2 channels and selected free-to-air DVB-S/S2 satellite channels from one satellite position. For this purpose, a 120 cm A9684 satellite dish with a quatro A98257 LNB was installed on the building roof. The UHF Dipol 44/21-60 Tri Digit A2670 and the VHF DIPOL 7/5-12 A0710 antennas are provided to receive the DVB-T/T2 signal. The signal from the set of antennas is transmitted to the server room, where a set of channel amplifiers and TERRA tdx-480 R81621 transmodulator are installed
Several SAT TV programs are included in the DVB-T digital terrestrial television package, available from several DVB-T multiplexes. A total of around 35 programs are available. The satellite signals are converted to DVB-T with the TDX-480 R81621 module which converts the DVB-S/S2 (QPSK/8PSK) satellite signal into the digital DVB-T COFDM stream. The stream was then combined with terrestrial DVB-T signal using at422 R82509 and at440 R82511 channel amplifiers. The at422 R82509 amplifier allowed to amplify the MUX-8 multiplex in VHF band, and the at440 R82511 amplifier amplified the remaining three multiplexes in UHF band. The TDX-480 R81621 tramsmodulator was connected to one cable from the SRM-522 R80522 multiswitch which enables reception of signals from any satellite transponder, from HotBird 13.0 degE. The ma400 R82520 amplifier is used for additional amplification of the signal from the panels: at422 R82509, at440 R82511, TDX-480 R81621. Adequate signal level in the system was provided by HA-126 R82303 amplifiers mounted on 5 floors.
OTDR measurements in fiber optic systems. A reflectometer is an advanced device usually utilised for measuring the reflectance (ability to attenuate reflected signals) of connectors and determining attenuation of all events in the transmission path. Such measurement gives a full image of the measured section of fiber optic system. It allows the installer to check the splices, adapter connections or to determine the absence of fiber breakage due to kinking during laying or rewinding.

Devices of this type are an invaluable tool to diagnose the causes of optical path failure.
Reflectometers average out and analyze a series of measurements. Rather than being measured directly, attenuation values are calculated by the software. More importantly, OTDR measurements do not include the attenuation of the last event in the tested fiber line, i.e. typically the meter connection to the line, which may have a significant impact on total attenuation. This dead zone can be eliminated with the use of a launch cable, which means, however, that the measurement will include the influence of this additional cable-to-line connection.
Even though reflectometers are advanced tools that offer many diagnostic advantages, the total attenuation of the optical path should be measured with the transmission method, i.e. using an optical power meter and a stable light source. Firstly, the method guarantees greater accuracy (as opposed to reflectometry, it measures actual attenuation), and secondly, the system can be calibrated to eliminate the attenuation at the start and the end points of the optical fiber. Every reflectometer is equipped with a power meter module, so there is no need to buy two separate devices.
A reflectogram is a graph that shows the power of the optical signal along the entire length of the tested fiber line. It allows the technician to determine what events occur in a given optical path and measure their transmission parameters (such as attenuation and reflectance). The image above illustrates the typical events represented by a reflectogram:
  • A - beginning of the optical fiber line; a reflection peak caused by the measuring connector
  • B - a falling curve representing signal attenuation in the optical fiber
  • C - a fiber splice or bend
  • D - a connection point
  • E - end of the optical fiber line
The next issue of the weekly review will present an analysis of a specific case of reflectometric measurement in a fiber optic network.
How to create a secure network for CCTV monitoring? As a standard, no devices intended to secure a house (monitoring, intercom, gate controllers etc.) and PC equipment should be located within a single IP network. Separating these devices is one of the factors increasing integrity of the security system.
A way to separate these networks is to create virtual local networks. This requires the use of a managed switch and creation of dedicated VLANs. In the example below, by changing parameters on the switch, the user can create two separate networks. The first one will cover monitoring, and the second the home network. Both networks operate independently.
It is very important during configuration (and often neglected) to manually assign IP addresses to the devices, without specifying a default gateway. Devices for securing the house should not have direct access to the Internet. Also remember to disable any cloud-based services (e.g. remote viewing). The administrator should only allow access to the internal network from the outside using a VPN (of course, this involves the need for an external IP address).

Full-color technology for better monitoring of night events events. Most disturbing events happen at night. Traditional cameras with IR illuminators capture little image detail when in night mode. They lose all color-related information that may be crucial in identifying details of events. At night, the monitored area should be illuminated with white light or cameras with the full-color function should be used...>>>more
