Do not start a war when...
On February 26, 2011, at 6:07 Moscow time, the carrier rocket Soyuz-2.1b began to launch into earth orbit the first satellite from the third-generation Russian satellite navigation system GLONASS (Globalnaja Nawigacionnaja Sputnikowaja Sistiema). At 9:41 the control over the satellite was taken by the ground-based command center which announced that the operation had been successfully completed. The event received wide coverage throughout the world, because after several unsuccessful attempts the Russians are closer to having an alternative to the American GPS system.
To separate individual signals, GLONASS employs FDMA (Frequency Division Multiple Access) protocols. However, two additional CDMA (Coded Division Multiple Access) signals, used by GPS, will enable users to utilize both systems. The civilians equipped with devices compatible with the two systems will be able to benefit from up to 50 satellites, in order to determine their exact positions. With different orbital height and angle of inclination, GLONASS satellites will allow for more accurate covering of polar areas, in comparison with the U.S. satellite system.
At the moment, GLONASS operates on the territory of Russia. To achieve global coverage, the system needs two more satellites. These are to be placed in the orbit later this year. The Russians, promoting the development of their system, have introduced a 25% duty on all imported GPS equipment not compatible with GLONASS. Since 2012, all cars produced in Russia are to be fitted with the GLONASS navigation system .
In modern history, there were at least two cases when the U.S., controlling the GPS system, used this opportunity. During the first Gulf War they changed the GPS settings in order to show false data. The Iraqis found it out only after two days, during which they wrongly located positions of their units, and their missiles missed the targets. A similar situation occurred in 2008, during the Russo - Georgian war, whwn the GPS system was disabled in this region, hindering the movements of Russian troops. After the incident, Vladimir Putin, knowing the importance of having their own positioning system, ordered to intensify the work on the GLONASS project.
Another system, Compass - Beidou, is being built by the Chinese, it should cover China in 2012, and the whole world in 2020. Europe is also involved in a project of global navigation, Galileo, which should be be fully functional in 2018.
Antennas in an extraordinary bay.
The bay visible in the pictures below has been placed on the UNESCO World Heritage List twice. Once as an area of unique natural beauty, the second as a place of enormous research value associated with the structure of the Earth's crust. The district with an area of 150000 ha, which consists of over 1900 islands, is inhabited only by about 300 people. Every year, the bay is visited by about 2 million tourists. To ensure communication, on some islands there have been deployed cellular base stations.
Where is the bay? - The answer at the end of this issue.
Distribution of CCTV channels as DVB-T signals in systems based on TERRA MMH-3000 headend.
Increasingly in antenna systems there are transmitted materials from media players and images from analog CCTV cameras. This functionality is often used in hotels (transmission of video from conference rooms, ski slopes, beaches) and in residential buildings (video monitoring of parking lots, playgrounds, etc). The obstacles in implementing such systems may be lack of free channels and the prospect that in the near future televisions will not be equipped with analog TV tuners. They can be overcome by using encoders and DVB-T modulators.

Video surveillance of parking lots.
For effective monitoring of unlit parking lots one requires cameras with increased sensitivity, supported by IR illuminators. The models recommended for deploying along fences are the M11190 cameras equipped with Sony Exview image senors characterized by increased sensitivity, including the range of infrared radiation emitted by IR illuminators. The cameras should be fitted with lenses designed to work in IR range, e.g. Jensen M2158.The parking entry and exit will be efficiently monitored by the Sunell BXC5930CDN SN-M11209 cameras. They are characterized by high resolution and sensitivity, as well as excellent image processing performed by Effio processors. The use of HLC function (High Light Compensation) ensures that the images from the cameras will not be overexposed by the headlights of passing cars.
The areas of parking lots can be effectively illuminated with Redbeam IR100 M1647 (range of 90 m, beamwidth of 30o) or Redbeam IR40 M1640 (range of 30 m, beamwidth of 60o) IR illuminators.

Integration of video surveillance systems in scattered locations.
The simplest way to integrate such systems e.g. in supermarket chains, petrol/gas stations, fast food chains etc. in order to monitor the whole groups of locations in centralized points is to use local high-definition recording and lower quality remote video monitoring over the Internet in these points.
Cheap home wireless n network.
A very popular wireless router is the TP-LINK TL-WR740N N3252, with the following features:- MAC address cloning
- firewall
- Internet access filtering
- static / dynamic routing
- AP in 802.11 n/g/b standards (up to 150 Mbps)
- router
- built-in 4-port switch
- QSS
- QoS

Vinh Ha Long.
The bay in northern Vietnam, an arm of the Gulf of Tonkin, which lies about 164 km southeast of Hanoi. As a result of flooding of the previously existing limestone plateau, the landscape is dominated by 1969 islands, of which 989 have been named. The islands in the eastern part of the bay have almost vertical slopes. The peaks of the flooded area jut out 50-100 m above the water level.Satlook Micro HD - measurements in multiswitch systems. Satlook Micro HD R10740 meter has been designed and manufactured by engineers of Emitor company in Sweden.
The main purpose of the R10740 meter is to help the installer find a chosen satellite (with Easy Find), and then to allow for precise alignment of the dish and LNB(s) by measuring a set of parameters of digital signals from selected transponders. The device can measure satellite signals in DVB-S standard (QPSK modulation) and in DVB-S2 standard (QPSK and 8PSK modulations - the latter is used by transponders broadcasting HD channels)...
