No. 21/2017 (May 22, 2017)
Is it time for Android successor? Already last year, there were reports about the work of Google on a project called Andromeda, a system combining advantages of the well-known Android operating system and Chrome OS. Interestingly, the new solution with freshly disclosed name Fuchsia OS will not be based on Linux operating system!
With tools like Flutter SDK, developers will have no problem with creating new applications and interfaces of the new operating system. So far, the system had no graphical overlay and was operated from the command line. So, a simple overlay has been created, called Armadillo , which shows how the new operating system might look.
A video showing a graphical interface of Fuchsia OS
The above video shows the first appearance of the Armadillo overlay. Not everything is fine-tuned or Google does not want to reveal details. So far, the interface is very poor and has no basic navigation buttons. The overlay does not have horizontal mode and does not present any information, just sample texts. Maybe May will be a breakthrough time and we will learn more about the Fuchsia OS.
Hotel SMATV system with optical links. One of the main advantages of fiber-optic solutions is the complete immunity to ground loops, surges and spikes. This often overlooked fact may be in many situations the most important one. SMATV systems, due to antennas located on roofs of buildings, are particularly vulnerable to surges resulting from lightning. Despite proper grounding of all system components, some of the equipment of traditional SMATV systems can be irreversibly damaged. Notably, overvoltages can destroy not only the SMATV equipment, but in extreme cases also some user devices, such as satellite receivers or televisions. In contrast, fiber optic cable is a perfect insulator. This means that all the surges induced in antennas installed on a roof will not cross the optical transmitter - all other components of the system as well as user devices are fully protected.
The pictures above present fragments of MATV system installed in Hilton Balice Hotel located in the Krakow conurbation, installed by Dipvision company. The master antenna set located on the roof is composed of Dipol 44/21-60 Tri Digit DVB-T UHF A2670 antenna and two Laminas OFC-1200P A9670 120 cm satellite dishes, each equipped with TOL32 A9885 LNB with optical output. The dishes are installed on non-invasive mounts stabilized with large paving tiles. The optical signals are transmitted via a single mode fiber in the second transmission window (1310 nm) to the SAT-IF & DVB-T Optical Receiver / Converter TVQ 06 QUATRO A9882, which replicates satellite IF, DVB-T and FM/DAB signals in the form of four polarization/band pairs (VL-HL-VH-HH), DVB-T and DAB, and FM broadcasts. The RF signals are then provided via copper coaxial cables to the TERRA MR-924L R70824 multiswitch with active terrestrial path.
Antenna for LTE-Advanced. LTE Advanced is a further extension of the LTE standard. Owners of devices compatible with LTE-A can theoretically reach transfers up to 300 Mbps, which is possible by the aggregation of several frequency bands. The download speed up to 300 Mbps and upload speed up to 50 Mbps is enabled by the connection of two bands in different frequency ranges, for example in the 1800 MHz and 2600 MHz frequency ranges. LTE Advanced uses 20 MHz wide bands in the LTE FDD (Frequency Division Duplex) standard, with division of the bands between the download and upload channels.
In many cases where the mobile device is at a longer distance from the base station or is shadowed by various obstacles there are problems with adequate signal strength. Usually the problems can be solved by connecting the modem to a suitable external/outdoor antenna. Sometimes such an antenna can also be used for the improvement of the communication with a concrete base station offering e.g. the advantages of LTE-A standard. In each case it is important to buy broadband antennas that can operate in the "old" and "new" LTE bands and can provide the advantages of band aggregation.

The devil is in the details - cleaning the end faces of fiber optic connectors. The phenomenon of signal attenuation is the basic problem of the transmission of information over long distances. In the case of fiber-optic networks, an additional attenuation can be caused by factors such as inadequate precision of splices or too small bending radius. However, it happens that the attenuation of a link is too high, despite observing the basic rules.

mproper cleaning of ferrule end faces may cause permanent scratches.
The sometimes forgotten or ignored factor increasing attenuation is a dirty ferrule end face. It may be the main and only reason for the trouble with the transmission of optical signal.

A good and cheap solution to this problem is to clean all terminations during the installation process. The ferrule end-face cleaner NC-001 L5916 removes dust, dirt and contaminants prior to mating a fiber optic connection. The special structure of the fabric accurately collects pollution, at the same time avoiding any scratching. Solid casing gives a good grip of the tool during operation. Interchangeable microfiber replacement reels L5917 ensure long life of the tool. The casing protects the cleaning surface against pollution during transport.
Redundancy recording in Hikvision DVRs/NVRs. Anyone recording the video from a camera on a hard disk of a DVR/NVR should be aware of the possibility of losing the data due a disk failure. The risk of HDD failure is low and strongly depends on operating conditions, brand and model. According to tests of Backblaze company, the estimated failure rate of hard drives operating in 24/7 mode is below 5% in the first two years of use in a server room (stable temperature, humidity, dust level). However, the older the drive, the failure rate becomes considerably higher.
Users can protect themselves from hard disk problems by enabling redundant recording. The video is simultaneously recorded on two hard drives. If one of them is damaged, the recordings are still available on the other one. The redundant disk does not need to have the same capacity as the primary one, as it can be used only for recording images from selected, "most important" cameras.
HDD management for redundant recording:
the redundancy has to be set up for each "key" camera,

New series of Signal IP cameras with H.265 compression. DIPOL has introduced 4 new models of Signal IP cameras supporting H.265 video compression: HDV-200 K1816, HDV-210 K1828, HDC-240P K1876, and HDC-250P K1886. All the cameras are equipped with 2.8-12 mm varifocal lenses and IR illuminators with range from 30 to 60 meters, depending on the model. The H.265 coding allows for two times higher compression ratio than H.264, with preservation of the same image quality. This further saves network and memory resources. Of course, the cameras also support H.264 standard. The cameras can operate together with Hikvision NVRs supporting H.264 (E series) and those supporting H.265/H.264 (I series). If an IP CCTV system is based on a Hikvision NVR from the E series, e.g. DS-7604NI-E1/A K22043, the compression of the main stream and auxiliary stream in each of the cameras has to be changed to H.264. NVRs of the I series, e.g. DS-7608NI-I2 K22083 allow users to fully exploit the potential of the cameras, including H.265 video compression.
