New way of remote control.

A group of students at Taiwan's National Chung Hsing University presented a clever use of motion sensors fitted into the popular smart Apple Watch. With special software, they were able to remotely control a drone and selected electronic devices using only hand gestures.
The work on the software called Dong began in 2013. Using the gyroscope and accelerometers of the Apple Watch, the software allows for control of flying objects such as drones (they tested it e.g. with Parrot AR 3.0) and the state of electronic devices, e.g. lamps - they can be switched on/off by clapping hands, and further controlled (e.g. the illumination colors) by drawing assigned characters in the air.
The software developers have already filed patent applications. They hope for commercialization and popularization of their solution that is an interesting new application of wearables. By the way, the selling figure of the smart watch from Apple is enormous - for nine months the Apple Watch has generated a turnover of $ 7 billion. For comparison, the annual turnover of the Swiss watch market is $ 25 billion.

Mobile Protect DVRs - browsing of recordings.

The use of SD cards as the storage media in the Protect 104 M80104 DVR allows for easy and fast access to the stored data - it is enough to take out the card from the DVR and insert to the card reader in a PC. In need of archiving, the user does not have to connect a laptop directly to the DVR in the vehicle.
After inserting the card into a laptop, the recordings can be played back using the supplied CMS software. The software, in addition to searching and playing back video recorded from cameras, can generate the map of the journey, create charts of acceleration and find the moments of activation of alarm inputs. Using Google maps, the application can generate the route of the car displayed based on GPS coordinates. When playing back recordings, the position of the vehicle is shown on the map.
If necessary, the CMS software enables the user to export any portion of the recordings in AVI or mp4 format, "understandable" for any video player. To change the selected file into AVI format, the user should click on the AVI icon.

Transmission of HDMI video from an HD-TVI DVR over a long distance.

A company in Krakow decided to modernize its video surveillance system by changing old analog PAL cameras to new HD-TVI models. Additionally, the security staff should monitor the video on a regular basis. As the room of the staff is located at a distance above 200 meters from the technical room with the DVR, it was necessary to solve the problem of transmission of the HD video over that length.
Tests of wireless transmission means showed that they could not guarantee the required quality and reliability of the video transmission (interference from two other networks in the area).

Transmission of HDMI video with the use of Signal-HD H3608 converter and optical link
The best solution has been the use of universal single-mode optical cable L76004 and the Signal-HD H3608 HDMI to fiber optic converter kit on the both ends of the link. The operator can watch high-definition surveillance video on a large screen in another building, and remotely control the HD-TVI DVR (the kit also converts and transmits commands from IR remote control to the DVR, which enables the operator to switch between the images from the security cameras).

Integra alarm panel - emergency startup procedure.

If, despite all connections being correct, the control panel fails to start properly - the keypads are not supported, codes are not accepted by the control panel etc. - the installer should follow the steps below:
  • turn off the control panel power supply (first disconnect the AC power, and then the battery);
  • put a jumper on the RESET pins located on the control panel main board;
  • turn on the control panel power supply (first connect the battery and then the AC power); the DIALER LED will start blinking;
  • wait a few seconds until the DIALER LED goes out and remove the jumper from the pins; the control panel will enter service mode; the service mode menu will be displayed on the keypad with the lowest address;
  • restore the factory default settings using the CLEAR ALL function (-> RESTARTS -> CLEAR ALL);
  • start the KEYPADS ADDR. function (-> STRUCTURE -> HARDWARE -> IDENTIFICATION -> KEYPADS ADDR.) and set individual addresses in the keypads;
  • Identify devices connected to the keypad bus
  • identify devices connected to the expander bus
  • exit the service mode using the END SERVICE function;
  • after a prompt appears on the keypad display whether to save the data to the FLASH memory, press the key with the number 1; by saving a copy of the settings to the FLASH memory, the control panel will be able to restore them from the backup copy if an error is detected in the data stored in the RAM memory;
  • after the data is saved to the FLASH memory, the control panel restarts (the keypad display will be blank for a moment); after the restart, the control panel should work properly and the installer can program the system.
In the case of using a computer running DLOADX program, connected to the RS-232 port of the control panel, the service mode will not start (it will be possible to program the control panel locally from the computer).

Modular transmodulators of TV signals.

DIPOL has recently introduced the latest Terra devices for management and distribution of digital TV programming, TTX410C R81615 and TDX410C R81617. The sources of the programming can be terrestrial DVB-T broadcasts, satellite DVB-S/S2 channels (including pay TV programs), as well as DVB-C channels. The TTX-410C R81615 and TDX-410C R81617 panels have been equipped with CI (Common Interface) for conditional access. Suitable modules with smart cards enable the transmodulators to operate with selected scrambled services.

DVB-T/T2/C - COFDM TTX-410C R81615 transmodulator is used for reception of DVB-T/T2/C signals, some corrections of TS parameters (regeneration, filtering etc.) and retransmission of them in COFDM format in selected channel in VHF/UHF frequency range. It allows for distribution of digital TV channels in situations when the signal received by the antenna cannot be directly amplified or converted to a different frequency due to high BER and low MER levels. The MER (modulation error rate) parameter at the output of the device is not lower than 35 dB, so the digital multiplex can be distributed even in very large MATV systems.

DVB-T/T2/C - COFDM TTX-410C R81617 transmodulator is used for reception of DVB-S/S2 (8PSK/QPSK) signals, selection of desired channels from a transponder, and retransmission of them in COFDM format in chosen channel in VHF/UHF frequency range. In multiplexing mode, one panel receives a whole multiplex (up to 10 or so channels) and converts it to DVB-T multiplex with up to 5 services (max 31 PIDs) with max throughput of 31.66 Mbps. When a higher throughput is required, the system will need next TDX-410C R81617 module(s).

Selecting a radio channel for home WiFi.

2.4 GHz band consists of 13 channels, from which only three are separated from one another. It means that only maximum three WLAN networks can work in a particular area without bandwidth sharing. The installer of a new network should check for free channels before running the WLAN system. In the case of free channels, the best one is that with the lowest level of noise/interference.
