A new European 5G speed record.
Italian cellphone operator, TIM (Telecom Italia Mobile), has just announced a new transmission speed record in a commercial 5G network. In tandem with Ericsson, a Swedish telecommunications service provider, the company passed the 2 Gbps barrier in the 26 GHz band. Telecom Italia had invested as much as 2.4 billion euro to acquire three frequencies: 700 MHz, 3.7 GHz, and 26 GHz, and the experiment used an Askey CPE RTL0200 router and a Qualcomm Snapdragon X50 modem. A standard C-band 5G network allows to transmit data with a speed of c. 1 Gbps. Although several European operators already provide commercial 5G services, their speed continues to be slower than that available in countries such as, for instance, South Korea, primarily due to the lack of millimeter band transmission.
The greatest advantage of the millimeter band (high frequencies) is that it provides an ultrabroadband channel for data transmission. TIM currently uses 200 MHz in the 26 GHz spectrum, a step toward the projected total of 400 MHz. The channel is 2.5 times broader than that available in the C-band. Importantly, millimeter-band devices are already present in the market. The Italian operator predicts that its 5G network will use a total of 800 MHz, if not 1000 MHz, by the end of the 2020. This would enable data transmission speeds of 8 Gbps and 10 Gbps, respectively.
Hikvision rewarded by Detektor.
Hikvision's bispectral camera, DS-2TD1217-2/V1 K01845, won one of the prestigious Detektor International Awards 2019, handed out by the Sweden-based international journal "Detektor", carrying the day among alarm and detection devices. The jury decided to reward it for an innovative solution that allows for the early detection of intruders in any lighting conditions. The camera combines the advantages of traditional video monitoring and thermal imaging. It is equipped with two image sensors: one is a CMOS sensor for visible light, with an image resolution of 1920 x 1080 px, the other detects far-infrared radiation with a resolution of 160 x 120 px. This enables intrusion detection even in bad weather (such as snow, rain, or fog). An additional fire detection function is particularly popular with clients.
The camera's motion and fire detection analysis is based on an AI algorithm. A built-in GPU and advanced analytical algorithms ensure high accuracy. Solutions of this type can be used for intrusion detection, perimeter control (with VCA), as well as the monitoring of landfills, warehouses, and railway stations, temperature measurement, and fire detection, etc. Thermal imaging cameras, even with low resolutions, are a perfect complement to traditional monitoring systems.
A compact headend (Terra S3C32WB).
DIPOL's portfolio has been expanded to include a new digital, 32-channel headend (S3C32WB R81635). The device is designed for the distribution of uncoded (FTA) and coded (BISS) channels. Each of its 32 transmodulators receives signals from a whole satellite transponder (more than ten channels) and forms the corresponding DVB-C multiplex. In total, the headend can distribute 32 DVB-C multiplexes that can be received by televisions equipped with DVB-C tuners. The TV channels received from a transponder can be freely filtered; the only requirement is not to exceed the maximum output bit rate.
Using dCSR multiswitches allows to receive DVB-S/S2 signals from 8 satellite positions and the formation of 32 DVB-C multiplexes.

- transmodulation of DVB-S/S2 (8PSK/QPSK) signals into DVB-C (QAM) signals,
- reception of FTA channels from max. 8 satellite positions,
- support for BISS decryption (no smart cards from the operator are needed, the program is decoded with a key entered at the headend),
- built-in remultiplexer - creating DVB-C multiplexes of any content,
- any output channel can be set up in the 48-858 MHz range,

Kidde carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
Carbon monoxide (CO) is a strongly poisonous gas; it is colorless, odorless and slightly lighter an air, which means it easily diffuses and spreads through the room. The gas is created as a result of incomplete combustion in environments where the supply of oxygen is poor. This is particularly dangerous in apartments with windows that are shut tight or sealed up for winter. Carbon monoxide accumulates in the body, which means that prolonged exposure to low concentrations may endanger life and health. Compliant with the PN EN 50291-1: 2010 standard, Kidde devices monitor both short-term and long-term levels and trigger an alarm depending on the CO concentration and time:- 30 PPM - alarm after 120 minutes
- 50 PPM - alarm between 60-90 minutes
- 100 PPM - alarm between 10-40 minutes
- 300 PPM - alarm within 3 minutes
Kidde detectors come with certificates of compliance with the EN 50291-1: 2010 standard for home CO detectors. Some devices are also compliant with PN-EN 50291-2: 2010, which makes them suitable for use in trailers, campers or on boats. Their compliance has been confirmed by an independent research unit - the British Standard Institute (BSI).

Using a detector, especially in the fall and winter season, is essential and may save lives. DIPOL's portfolio features CO detectors and CO and smoke detectors. Some models have an LCD display to facilitate diagnostics. Two models, 5CO G9583 (without a display) and 5DCO G9985 (with a display), are powered by three AA 1.5 V batteries and have a lifecycle of up to 7 years from the moment of activation. Powered in the same way, the 7DCO G9587 model can work for up to 10 years. Another CO detector, 10LLDCO G9589, has an LCD display and a built-in battery that guarantees continuous operation throughout the entire lifecycle (10 years). The device will automatically prompt the user to change the battery once the need arises. After the warranty period has expired, the detectors should be replaced.
How to choose a "strong fiber-optic cable"?
The choice of a fiber-optic cable for a given system may be dictated by a number of criteria: its outer diameter, easy deployment in shafts, UV resistance, and easy preparation for splicing. One of the key criteria has to do with the cable's mechanical strength.When comparing different cables, it is important to consider two basic parameters: their tensile strength and crush resistance (or impact resistance). These figures allows installers to estimate which cable is less likely to sustain damage during installation and long-term use.
Tensile strength is usually expressed as the maximum force with which the cable can be pulled so that the fibers inside elongate by max. 0.06% to 0.33% of their initial length (depending on the testing method). Usually, the cable can withstand such force only for a brief period of time, i.e. during installation (which is why it is often referred to as the max. installation force). Typical cables fall in the range of 800-1500 N, where the lower limit is reserved for self-supporting cables, and the upper one for typical loose central tube cables. Those within the 2000-3000 N range are considered strong and can be safely deployed in telecommunication ducts. Last but not least, for super-strong cables, the maximum pulling force during installation can reach 5 or even 12 kN.
When analyzing tensile strength, it is also worth considering the maximum, long-term pulling force that can act on the given type of cable. The value of this parameter is usually much lower than that permissible during installation. In this case, maximum fiber elongation should not exceed 0.2% of the initial length. Some standards require that no elongation at all should occur.
Crush resistance (impact resistance) can be expressed in Nm or N, depending on the testing method used by the manufacturer. Cables can be compared directly provided they have been tested in the same way. Less resistant cables can withstand a max. crushing force of 300 N, while the corresponding value for more resistant models will be 4000 N. If the torque is given, strong cables are those of 20 Nm or more.
