In an article published in the Nature Communications journal, scientists from the California Institute of Technology presented a new imaging technique that can capture videos at a shocking 70 trillion (70x10¹²) frames per second. In earlier works on imaging techniques based on silicon sensors, the rates of up to millions of frames per second were achieved. It is not enough, however, to capture and document the most volatile physical phenomena such as nuclear fusion or fluorescent radioactive decay. Scientists usually investigate these ultrafast effects by triggering them multiple times and repeatedly observing them in different time intervals. Such approach reduces considerably the possibility of registering and observing some phenomena.

The Lihong Wang technique, developed by the professor of medical and electrical engineering sciences at Caltech, is known as the Compressed Ultra-Fast Spectral Photography (CUSP). It utilizes short laser light pulses lasting one femtosecond (0.000.000.000.000001 seconds). The entire system is split into two parts: the imaging and lighting sections. In the imaging section, an interchangeable system of lenses records the scene while splitting the light beam into two paths. At the end of one of them, there is a camera recording the non-diffused light. In the second path, there is a DMD (digital micromirror device) module for encoding the recorded image into a pseudo-random binary stream which, in the form of light, is then transmitted to the streak camera. Such cameras record changes in light intensity vs. time (they are used, among others, in autonomous vehicles as part of the LIDAR system). The lighting (illumination) section generates and directs ultra-short laser pulses to the scene being recorded. The system generates 70 trillion pulses per second, which translates into the same number of fps of the recorded footage.

Optical video converters – PTZ control.

All models of video converters Ultimode support RS485 data transmission, e.g. control signals to PTZ cameras. The transmission does not require any additional configuration, it is only important to properly connect the wiring and employ typical ready-to-use resources of CCTV systems implemented in PTZ cameras, DVRs, keyboards or other control devices.

The requirements for the communication between a control unit or DVR and a PTZ camera:

If the external keyboard is not used to control PTZ, only the DVR (controlled as part of the HD-TVI protocol), the RS-485 port of the DVR should be connected to the receiver of the video converter set. With no such connection, it will not be possible to control the camera, since the control signals in the coaxial cable (HD-TVI) are not transmitted by optical fiber (only video signal is transmitted).

Cameras with a resolution of up to 8 MP are available in the TurboHD system. Such a high resolution is ideal for monitoring wide scenes, ensuring the right image quality expressed as pixel density, i.e. the number of pixels per meter of the height of the observed frame or object. With 4K resolution, it is possible to record four times more details than with cameras having the 2 MP (1080p) sensors, and thus a more useful image is obtained.

Hikvision IP cameras can sequentially take and record pictures, as well as they can perform such operations in response to some events. In the sequence mode, one can create e.g. the history of the progress of construction of a building. This solution saves the user a plenty of disk space (memory card/server), while ensuring that the construction process is well documented.
