Another speed record!

The latest achievement of the UCL (University College London) scientists and employees of Xter and KDDI Research meets with great admiration from those dealing with network data transmission. The team succeeded in sending data at a rate of 178 Tbps over a distance of 40 km using a single-mode optical fiber for transmission.

Such an impressive result was achieved with the simultaneous use of the S (1460 nm – 1530 nm), C (1530 nm – 1565 nm) and L (1565 nm – 1625 nm) bands. Moreover, to achieve the rate of 178 Tbps, the scientists had to increase the bandwidth. The current infrastructure enables 4.5 THz (some newer solutions even up to 9 THz), while during the tests, the researchers achieved a channel bandwidth of 16.8 THz. The 1024 QAM modulation was used for the transmission, however, at certain wavelengths, 256 QAM or 64 QAM modulation turned out to be a better choice. Those modulations are less efficient, but are suitable for higher signal attenuation.

An unquestionable advantage of this technology is the cost of implementation in the existing infrastructure. It is all modifying the amplifiers spaced in 40-100 km intervals. Such an upgrade project would cost much less than replacing entire cabling, the scientists say. An interesting fact is that at this rate, the entire Netflix library could be downloaded in just a few seconds.

New graphical interface in the K series DVRs.

The DVR now supports cameras with motion detection v2.0 (DS-2CD (23/2T/26) 2 (4/8) 6G2/SL) and enables configuration of filtering such events such as: human or vehicle entry from the local GUI interface, internet browser and iVMS-4200. An option to search for events via Hik-Connect, two-way audio with a camera connected to a specific NVR channel, and many other improvements are also available. How to connect two optical fibers? - quick connectors.

Optical quick connectors are modern, low-cost solution for connecting (terminating) optical fibers and patch cables. Their main advantage over the use of adhesives or heating is the lower cost and no need for sterile installation conditions.

Ultimode quick connectors used for terminating fiber optic cables, are an alternative to pigtail connections or SoC (Splice on Connector) which require the use of a fiber optic splicer. This solution is ideal for CCTV, LAN and FTTH systems in which keeping the connection loss below 0.1 dB is not critical for the operation or acceptance of the installation. This saves the time to make the connection and money (the cost of a connector vs. purchasing: the pigtail, splice protector, joint box, adapter, patch cable). For that reason the quick assembly connectors are most commonly used for connecting FTTH subscribers or in CCTV systems, where limited space in media converter boxes prevents installation of fiber optic boxes.

Monitoring with remote display for multiple users.

Viewing images from a classroom or monitoring children in the kindergarten requires an efficient server that will deliver an image stream to the appropriate number of users. Such system is made possible when using Hikvision equipment and the free Hik-Connect service. It can make up a system with up to 64 users having simultaneous access to the connected cameras. Access rights can be modified individually for each account, so the administrator can decide for example which cameras can be viewed by a given user and whether he should have access to recordings.
