New vision of home monitoring from Amazon.

American technology company Amazon's Ring has recently unveiled a flying and room-monitoring camera that activates when sensors detect a potential home intrusion. The drone-like camera, named Always Home Cam, is designed for home surveillance and only activates when the occupants are away. The camera operates indoors and can travel within one floor of a building. If an intrusion is detected, the owner receives a notification on their smartphone and can view the camera live. Amazon assures that it cares about owners' privacy at the same time and the security system only sends reports when the camera is in motion. If it is at rest in the docking station, the system is physically locked. On top of that, the camera drone is loud enough to be heard when active. The solution, when it goes on sale, is expected to cost $250 and will only be available in the US at first.

"The Always Home Cam is an advanced device that for many consumers will seem like an invention straight out of a science fiction movie" – Ben Wood of consultancy CCS Insight commented. He added that he expected the camera to spark huge interest among "smart home" enthusiasts. However, it will also likely trigger a huge discussion about privacy and the future role of technology in the home. Amazon has been using drones to bolster its delivery network for years. In the past, the company's patents have suggested that drones would also be able to provide surveillance services. Ring's future products could include drones that move around the home in more than just suspected break-ins. Doesn't the "electronic, flying guardian-drone" sound a little... creepy?

The TV system uses the SA-91L R70901 amplifier for 9-input multiswitches of the serii MV-9xx series. The amplifier is equipped with eight satellite inputs and one DVB-T/T2/Radio input, allowing to amplify and equalize the input signals of the system. The signals are then distributed via the SD-904 R70523 splitter to two MV-924L R70874 multiswitches.

A diagram of the Hikvision IP video intercom system for a single-family house is shown below. The system is based on the DS-KD8003-IME1/EU G73652 door/gate station main module with a built-in 2 MP camera, one call button and 2 relays to control the wicket and the entrance gate. Two 7” DS-KH8350-WTE1/EU G74003 monitors with an IPS display are installed in the apartment. The Ultipower N29980 switch with 4 PoE ports supporting 802.3af is used to supply the door/gate station and monitors. The system is connected to the Internet via the TP-Link Archer C7 AC1750 N3262 router. The wicket is controlled with the use of the Bira ES1-001 G74210 electric door strike with steel keeper/latch with 4 mm adjustment range, suitable for 12 V AC or DC power supply. It is supplied with the 12 V DC M1820 power supply.

On pressing the button, both panels in the house start ringing in parallel. After answering the call by the resident, two-way audio/video communication is established, and the resident can release the gate/door strike. In the absence of the resident(s) in the apartment, the call can be redirected to a smartphone, and its user may open the gate remotely. The built-in 256 MB memory in each of the monitors allows for recording photos, messages, as well as for leaving information in the absence of residents. The application Hik-Connect is dedicated for a smartphone control. For configuration and operation with a PC, the client application iVMS-4200 is available.

Imaging techniques are constantly evolving, resulting in recordings with higher resolution, high frame rates, wider dynamic range and more detail. This is usually accompanied by an increase in the amount of data generated by the camera. Higher bitrates can cause problems when viewing video over a network with too little bandwidth.
